Aleksandra Blazevski
Artist member since 2025
Aleksandra Blaževski is an artist based in Tkaronto (Toronto), and completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Honours in Photography at OCAD University (2025). Her research-driven practice examines the ontological status of images and digital objects through sculptural interventions and experimental photographic processes. Drawing on media theory, phenomenology, and critical ontology, her work explores how institutional frameworks and technological systems shape perception, mediate memory, and influence the conditions under which images acquire meaning.
Her recent thesis project, A Mirror That Forgets, A Frame That Spirals, investigates the instability of image origins, hauntology, and the politics of framing through material disruptions of the image and its institutional containment. This body of work received the Verant Richards Award and will be exhibited in the vitrines at Gallery 44 from February to March 2026.
Q+A
What artists do you admire right now?
Trevor Paglen, Mindy Seu, and Joshua Citarella. I’m drawn to artists who explore the politics of images, network culture, and the invisible infrastructures shaping contemporary life.
What do you listen to when you work?
The instrumental of Koyaanisqatsi by Philip Glass.
When did you start making art, and why?
I started photographing as a child. I was captivated by how zooming could alter perception and cropping could redefine a photograph’s purpose. That early sensitivity to how framing shapes form and meaning continues to inform my practice.
